UPDATED: Emergency services are attending a two-car road traffic collision in Havenstreet this afternoon (Tuesday).
Police, several ambulance crews and a fire appliance from Ryde were called to the scene shortly before 15:00 following the head-on collision near the railway bridge on Main Road.
Although no one has been trapped in either vehicle, the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called over fears of fire due to smoke comig from one of the cars.
The road is currently blocked in both directions and traffic is being turned around just before the bridge at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway entrance.
No one is believed to be seriously injured in the collision, which has involved a Skoda Roomster and a Honda Civic.
UPDATE @ 15:50 – Two people have been taken to St Mary’s Hospital with minor injuries.
Firefighters have now left the scene having made safe the incident.
Recovery of the vehicles has been arranged. The road remains closed.
UPDATE @ 16:25 – Both cars have been recovered by Stag Lane Motors. The road has now reopened as a result.
