Emergency services have been called to a head-on crash on the main road between the villages Godshill and Whitwell this afternoon (Thursday).
Police, fire and ambulance crews are on scene having been alerted to the collision at just gone 14:10
The incident has occurred between the junctions of Meryl Lane and Roud Road.
Island Echo understands that the 2 cars involved have hit with such force that 1 of the vehicles has rebounded into a hedge lining the carriageway.
The extent of the injuries sustained is unclear at this time. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has 2 ambulances and an operational commander on scene.
Southern Vectis’ Route 6 bus is currently stuck in the traffic. Motorists are diverting locally via Beacon Alley.
UPDATE @ 15:43 – It has been confirmed that 2 people have been taken to hospital with what have been described as minor injuries.
Recovery of the vehicles is underway.
I hope all are ok, that’s quite the prang, or as Island Drivers call it, parking.

Just back from my six month holiday in Mexico.Nothing changes.Love this bit of road normally do a ton plus no problems.Slow down you muppets before somebody get’s seriously injured.You would be pushing my insurance up again if I was paying any.
There is only one organisation to blame for such incidents,
“IW Council”
The Council are responsible for Island Roads, surely by now
even IW Council know that the majority of Road users on the island
idiots.
Speeding is the obvious reason for this crash
It is the Councils responsibility to make Roads safe for everyone.
Measures need to be put in place so motorists cannot speed!,
there are parts of this Road where there are no centre road markings and
motorists drive on both sides of the Roads AT SPEED!
Come on IW Council make Island Roads safe.
The only one to blame here is one of the drivers.The driver of the silver car on the wrong side of the road. Why is anyone’s guess. Nothing the council do will prevent accidents from happening. Perhaps you should ask the council to approve 20mph limit on all Island roads. That’ll stop the speeders, won’t it….
Because there are so many selfish idiots who drive on our Roads and make them unsafe
for other motorists
at least making the roads a lot slower to travel on will be a lot safer for everyone

The problem on the Island is that the Island is run by Numpties
who have absolutely no idea about Road Safety.
Take for example Beaper Shute, one of the most Dangerous Roads on the Island and
Buses come to a complete stop in front of traffic
A place with brains would install Bus Pull ins so it is safe for everyone.
Just have to remove a few trees and lay some tarmac, job done.
Melville St Sandown there are 2 us stops that are opposite car parking bays
Therefore when a bus Stops at either us stop vehicles have to come to a complete
Stop.
The parking bays opposite the us stops should be Red route lines so no cars park
opposite the us STOP THE ISLANDIS BRAINLESS AND UNSAFE when it comes to
Road Safety!
That part of the road has always been dangerous
Lived on that road for a time. It is very narrow in places and visibility is poor. The standard of driving and impatience were appalling. Another speed alley. Glad when we moved.
That’s a very narrow road with only a very few sections having verges, the thought of meeting a bus along there is quite scary.
I travel it 4/6 times a day and it can be a bit of adventure,but this part of road is wide enough for two buses as can see by white line,so not sure why head-on+ maybe overtaking cyclists
Until Speeding on the island is reduced
Serious accidents will sadly happen.
