COWES LIFEBOAT TOWS YACHT AFTER LOCATION CONFUSION

coastguardembelmThe half finished new breakwater at the mouth of Cowes Harbour totally confused the crew of a French yacht last night (Monday) when they sought help from HM Coastguard after their engine failed.

Having a chart that did not show the new gravel bank, the French crew’s initial communications could not categorically pinpoint whether the yacht was located off Castle Point, Calshot or Old Castle Point, East Cowes.

Finally all did became clear and the yacht, the 34ft Vincentina with two men and two women aboard, was towed to Trinity Landing, Cowes by the local RNLI lifeboat.

The lifeboat, which had launched at 21:30, returned to station at 21:57.
