A lone fisherman whose 15ft boat developed engine trouble in Osborne Bay near East Cowes was rescued by Cowes RNLI last night (Sunday).
Solent Coastguard requested the launch of Cowes’ Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat at just before 19:15, in response to a call for help from a casualty vessel.
The volunteer lifeboat crew soon arrived on scene to find the fishing boat aground in shallow water.
Despite risking propeller damage, they decided they had no option but to go close enough secure a tow line.
Eventually, an alongside tow enabled the lifeboat to deliver the boat to Shepards Marina.
The incident was concluded by 21:15.
