Another 2 GP-led vaccination centres on the Isle of Wight will start vaccinating patients over the next couple days, as the roll out of the biggest vaccination programme in NHS history continues.
The Westridge Centre in Ryde and The Bay Medical Practice in Shanklin will start to offer the vaccine to people within the next few days.
Alison Smith, managing director of NHS Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group, said:
“It has been great that we have been able to get the vast majority of our GP-led sites up and running so quickly. Clinics are going really well with lots of our patients and staff saying how smoothly things have run.
“We’d like to thank everyone for bearing with us as we know how important the vaccine is to many people. I would ask people to please continue to be patient. The NHS will contact you when it is your turn to be offered a vaccine with information about how to do this.
“Whilst the vaccine rollout is really good news, we know that the virus is still very much with us so we all must do everything we can to protect ourselves and others.”
Vaccination centres are already up and running in Carisbrooke and in Freshwater.
Nurses, paramedics, pharmacists and other NHS staff will work alongside GPs to vaccinate those aged 80 and over, as well as care home workers and residents, identified as priority groups for the life-saving vaccine.
The NHS will contact people in the priority groups when it is their turn to receive the vaccine. People should not contact their surgeries, the vaccination service is available strictly by invitation only.

Surely the working people should be first to receive this, as the country needs to continue to function
No, it should be given to the elderly as they have less natural protection should they catch it.
Pawl, I would give this to the vulnerable and old, as they are likely to die if catching it, others can wait.
Workers do pay the taxes, so fair point I guess.
Some do. Others don’t.!!
Difficult choice I suppose. On one hand you think care home residents probably don’t go out much if at all so aren’t a risk but then they can’t have visits from loved ones so maybe it’s those people who should be getting it? Also essential workers should be higher up the list. I wonder where on the list our mp and councillors are??
Staff mix with there family’s on the outside of homes
The council should be LAST on the list. As the Islands countryside would be far better off without this bunch in power. Their developer pals may shed the only tear for them.
Perhaps it would be easier to say who ‘SHOULDN’T’ receive it until last.
We could start the list of the last. with all those in jail, the longest serving the last to get it, then all those habitual criminals who have been in court several times, then more petty criminals. Then anti social behaviour people, then all those useless to society by no fault of their own. People who ‘shouldn’t be here at alll and have arrived illegally Next Non Brits starting with those from the furthest away countries, then to Scotland and on down south. All those who have only been in the UK for the shortest time, last in, last to be treated. Then those absolute boring people and the unemployed if not having had a job for several years then, the obese working down to those over size 12, chavs, those who do drugs, drive too fast, get drunk, have tattoos, own angry Pit bulls, etc. the ignorant poor, the arrogant rich, the pretentious middle classes.
Likely a few I missed as the list needs some more thought, just thought it easier than all the arguing of whose first.
Statistically it the over 80’s that have the highest mortality rate so why wouldn’t you.
Although at present children are not deemed to be a high risk, the worrying mutations make their future vulnerability to new stains a very real concern now. At present children are NOT going to be given ANY vaccine, so I feel we ought to give it to them now.
Over 60’s ought to be first.
Amanda, I see your point, but thus far, children rarely get this badly, so I feel the working people should have such first as they can’t isolate as the elderly can.
NO, children should NOT have this. They are low risk from harm should they catch it, AND to test this on children could wipe out mankind IF the vaccine causes harm further down the line, that is WHY they are not giving it to them.
Children ARE our future. Keep them safe.
It may sound harsh, but surely those who fund themselves in life should be given priority as they country is struggling fiscally now.
It DOES sound harsh! Older people have been shoring up this country with their taxes and war service for far longer than the rest of us have dome anything similar. They deserve respect for that. I can’t believe the callousness on here, not wanting the most vulnerable amongst us to be vaccinated first. See what you think when you reach that age! Subjecting unprotected older people to a painful premature death is a disgraceful idea.
Surely those unemployed should be equally able to gain the vaccine. Many have plenty of children who rely on them far more than single working people.
The real Islanders should have first jabs.
Not having a dig pal, but Olsan is not a long term Island name is it? Or is it a nick name
One would tend to agree Mr Olsan, proviso being the upper classes are treated first. We do pay in more National Insurance you know.
I tend to agree, madam (?). The upper classes, or ‘entitled superiority’, ought to be properly treated. I would recommend this happens as soon as they land at Ryde Pier. I also suggest their treat is a free ticket back to England, and a free Vectis flea in the ear! Regards, Lady Dunstanding. P.S. Happy Christmas, dear cousin.
What do YOU think a real islander is then
A blood test to confirm that you originated from Wroxall should suffice.!
And what is a real islander? Ridiculous comment..
Well YOU failed the test. For IF you have to ask, then your clearly aren’t.
They have DL NUMBER PLATES
Still
It should be administered alphabetically, as my name is Adam’s.
What about other areas like us at Newtown, just as we got a few houses, we should get it first as it could wipe our whole hamlet out.
As did the French
I think this should be rolled out to the fit elderly here as the unfit are likely already self isolating for much of their days. Hard to say who is most in deserving need, akin to playing God.
Why not auction the vaccine and then the money raised could pay for more vaccines which will be cheaper once the rich are sorted
Lambs to the slaughter or should I say guinea pigs
You’re an idiot. Get back in your hole flat earther.
The old should be first to get it.
It’s not a problem as this story is inaccurate Nursing home residents and staff are not being vaccinated!
They can keep their poison.
