The Isle of Wight Council has been invited to talk about housing at the Government’s next Islands Forum, which will take place on the Isle of Anglesey in Wales next week (7th-8th May). Topics such as tackling housing shortages and putting vacant properties back into use will be on the agenda at the conference, which will see council bosses come together to collaborate on shared opportunities and challenges. The Islands Forum helps to level up island communities by encouraging collaboration on common challenges such as skills, connectivity and infrastructure, as well as exploring shared opportunities, such as the transition to net zero. It also allows the UK government to hear and learn from island communities to inform future policy. Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Levelling Up, will chair the meeting. He says:
“Islands are distinct and vital parts of the United Kingdom, contributing a huge amount to our country. “The Islands Forum allows island communities to come together and work with government to address key challenges and opportunities. “Following the success of earlier forums in Orkney, the Isle of Wight, and the Isle of Lewis, I’m delighted to be bringing the forum to Wales to Ynys Môn for the first time. “This is an opportunity to hear from islands about their unique housing challenges, and to learn more about how they are tackling them in a pioneering and dynamic way.”
The next meeting in Ynys Môn/Anglesey will be the 4th Islands Forum following on from a Forum held here, on the Isle of Wight, in 2023.

Wouldnt bother, this shite govenment will be out soon, and then the rules will change with the new one
As NO immigrant ever comes bringing land , nor many has the money to buy a home, then of COURSE there is a shortage of housing for our own people.
Selling council homes just enable those who would have been in them forever anyway, most getting heavily subsidised rent just now have to do their own maintenance and repairs
The cash HMG received paid for new housing, sadly much for exotic tenants.
SEE the real issue
Well done Citizen.
Keep spreading the Truth.
You’ll be in line for Prole of the Month if you keep this up.
Tories, wondering why rents are so high and that there are no affordable homes yet failing to remember that they sold off all the council housing cheap to the boomers so they can give tax money to their mates. Well done.
The reason so many have to claim benefits whilst working two jobs is rent. Well done Tories, we’re now saddled with record high benefit payments. A troy will tell the lie that it’s people scrounging and not wanting to work. It’s not, that is a lie, its because rent is now over 60% of income.
Welcome to Tory Brittan where two adults working two jobs struggle to pay their rent.
Not worth the bother, Gove just another Tory Sleazeball
And a particularly noxious specimen of that particular bacteria into the bargain.
Great idea … all the idiots in the room at the same time, better do it quickly though .. as the Tories are done !! Ask Squeaky Gove where the special island deal is as well, Our useless MP won’t fight for this, won’t scupper his knighthood chances ..
Personally I prefer Andrex to Knighthoods
gives a much cleaner wipe.
If our MP had been doing the role he was employed for this would not be necessary. Just another excuse for tax payers money to be spent on a jolly by the Council members.
Bob should be getting our Ferry fares reduced.
Less than a 5 mile crossing, day return for an Island Resident
Minimum £75.00 day return
Criminal charges.
Friends of mine in New York travel on local ferries for under $3
Some thing tells me we are run by Crooks

Well while your at it how about asking how we are expected to get on and off this Island now for treatment, Hospital appointments, Dentists if your lucky, work, holidays, school, interviews, etc
That would level things up wouldn’t it.
Is that a warm front coming in or just hot air?
He’ll be gone come general election if local council elections are anything to go by. What a door handle he is… pushed from pillar to post because he’s about as useful as a chocolate tea pot 🙁
