Police have cordoned off Day Lewis Pharmacy in Newport this morning (Tuesday) following yet another overnight break-in.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have sealed off the crime scene on High Street, with smashed glass evident on the ground.
It is unclear at this stage if anything has been stolen, and whether or not anyone has been apprehended. Police have been contacted for a statement.
This isn’t the first time the pharmacy has been targeted by thieves… It was just a few weeks ago, on 29th August, that the pharmacy was broken into when a brick was thrown through a window at around 04:00 in the morning.
Then, last Thursday, the pharmacy was once again smashed into – with 34-year-old Reece Chilcott charged with burglary. He is due to appear in court today for sentencing.
There was another incident back in May too.
UPDATE @ 15:15 – Police have confirmed that they were called at just after 01:30 this morning. No arrests have yet been made and it is unclear if anything has been taken at this time.

Suggestion? If you have to have large glass doors maybe put metal sliding grilles locked when the shop is not open?

I think it might be worth educating yourself on the term of victim blaming? you’re suggesting that the comment was insinuating that the owner of the pharmacy was to blame, which it wasn’t…. merely suggesting that they could potentially re-inforce the entrance if they have the capability to do so.
I lived in southern italy in the early 1990’s – every shop had shutters over the frontage at night. Those that lived in gated compounds also had metal shutters that went over every window in the house, whenever they were out or at night and massive bolted doors.
The uk is catching up now and as we are also importing the third world, we will become the third world. The police are useless – you lock down everything that is movable – these low lives will steal anything
We all know it was commented as a dig at the owners and not a polite and well meant suggestion.

This story makes me sick and the addicted little thieves need taking out of society but the place has been burgled THREE times in the last few months – the pharmacy also needs to put in action to stop medications being stolen!
