Police officers have responded to a serious incident at George Street in Ryde this afternoon (Tuesday).
Around half a dozen police vehicles were seen to be responding to the scene sometime around 13:30, with more units heading to the town centre area at around 14:20.
A cordon has been established around a section of footpath approximately 100m south from the junction of Cross Street, on the eastern pavement side of the road.
Island Echo has approached Hampshire Constabulary for a statement.
UPDATE @ 17:00 – Hampshire Constabulary has said that officers are on scene at an address in George Street, Ryde, making enquiries in relation to an ‘inciden’..
Further details are due to be released when they are made available.

UPDATE @ 18:00 – An eyewitness has told Island Echo that police officers arrived at a property wearing riot gear and holding shields.
Forensic investigators wearing white suits remain at the scene, leaving the property with multiple evidence bags.
UPDATE @ 19:30 – Around 6 hours after the incident initially kicked off, a number of police officers remain on scene at George Street.
3 scientific forensic investigation vans are parked up close to the address with a police cordon remaining in place.
A police public order vehicle remains outside the property along with a number of other local units.
Police officers are on scene guard, protecting the immediate area whilst thorough examinations are carried out.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY MORNING – Police have issued a statement following last night’s incident, stating a 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder of a man in his 30s.

UPDATE WEDNESDAY EVENING – Hampshire Constabulary’s response to a suspected murder in Ryde, which is claimed to have been delayed and ‘not taken seriously’, has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
