The green light has been given to install further parking restrictions in an Isle of Wight town, despite strong objections.
The objections to the proposals in Ventnor had pushed the implementation back 3 months but a decision has finally been made.
In Albert Street, a 2-hour loading-only restriction, followed by a limited 1-hour waiting period between 10:00 and 18:00 during the Summer season will now be implemented — despite nearly 50 objections when the proposal was first introduced.
On Park Avenue, double yellow lines are proposed over the entrance to Fernleigh Apartments, to save it from being obstructed. The Isle of Wight Council received 52 objections over this proposal with 31 in favour.
They will be introduced, the Council says, to increase road safety and priority given to the movement of traffic over the preservation of parking spaces. It says the restrictions have been kept to a minimum to keep as much parking as possible.
Cllr Phil Jordan, the cabinet member for highways and infrastructure, approved the implementation of the restrictions yesterday on Tuesday (9th May).
They will come into force next Wednesday (May 17th) as long as an Isle of Wight Councillor does not challenge the decision.

Its not only Ventnor. I was astounded by the imposition of lines in Mitchels Road Ryde. The council are supposed to be representing the local community, striving to improve quality of life and community well-being? Yet the council absolutely & totally ignored the wishes of the local community. What is going on? Is democracy dead on the Island?
I would double yellow line the whole Island where safety is at risk due to
incompetent parking, and install parking meters.
Why should households not pay to park their vehicles.
Far too many Households own too many vehicles and it affects other families
who are unable to park their vehicle.
Permit Parking is the fairest way.
I drove down Great Preston Road Ryde this evening and even though the
road is full of no parking / no waiting cones along the road,
Vehicles are still parked on the side of the Road with cones.
There is no Law and Order on Island Roads.
In a civilised part of the country the Council enforcement officers or Police would
book these vehicles breaking the Law or have them towed away
NOT ON THE ISLAND, IT IS A JOKE!
Council Enforcement Officers are too busy hassling people
along Seafronts.
The Council needs to start removing vehicles that are parked along
roads and streets with No Mot.
Great Preston Road is an example of that, there as been a white Citroen Berlingo van
parked along the Road for months now with No Mot.
Very annoying when trying to park my vehicle when returning home from an hard days work.
Don’t be silly – IW Council could not undo a packet of crisps
between them.
Government employees are not the brightest bunch, hence being
employed.
None of them could get a real job for the private sector.
