UPDATED: Concerns are being raised about a recent increase in the number of apparent cases of drinks being spiked in bars and clubs on the Island, leading to females suffering fits and being rushed to hospital.
Over the last few weeks there have been a number of unconfirmed instances where females who do not appear to have drunken to excess, or taken recreational drugs, have lost consciousness and begun fitting – that is according to an email that is reported to have been circulated to licenced premises on the Island by Police.
A number of females have come forward to say they believe their drinks have been tampered with during nights out in Newport and Ryde recently.
Venues are now being warned to be extra vigilant by increasing the monitoring of drinks which are left unattended and ensuring females who appear inebriated are not left to their own devices.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY: Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed they are investigating at least 3 reported incidents, including one dating from 19th February.
