UPDATED: HM Coastguard and Police are in attendance at Culver Down near Sandown this afternoon (Sunday) following the discovery of an unoccupied tent, which has raised concerns with a member of the public.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were mobilised to the area by Solent Coastguard at shortly before 16:30 after a dog walker reported the discovery of a tent near the cliff edge with personal possessions still present, but no signs of any occupants.
Hampshire Constabulary are currently conducting initial investigations to establish whether anyone has gone missing from the area. It is thought the tent has been untouched all day.
Coastguard Rescue Officers are conducting a cliff top search between Coastguard Cottages and Red Cliff, however there are currently no indications that anyone has come to any harm.
The incident comes just over 12 hours after a group of teenagers were lead to safety by Police and Coastguard at nearby Yaverland following a drunken party, although the two are not thought to be related.
UPDATE @ 20:00 – The individual, thought to be a teenager, has been located safe and well with their parents this evening.
The incident, which has also involved Coastguard Rescue 104 helicopter from Lee-on-Solent, Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and Newport Coastguard Initial Response Team, has been stood down.
