twomenrescueappleyTwo fishermen have been led to safety on Ryde Sands tonight (Monday) following concerns from a member of the public on the shore.

At around 21:00 Coastguard Rescue Teams from Ryde and Bembridge, Bembridge Inshore Lifeboat and Ryde Inshore Rescue responded to concerns from a passer by that two persons were trapped far out to sea on Ryde Sands.

Bembridge Inshore Lifeboat, which had only just recovered to station after towing a small boat to Bembridge Harbour, was tasked to the scene off Appley where volunteer crew members made contact with the two men.

twomenrescueappley2With no requirement to launch their lifeboat, Ryde Inshore Rescue deployed one of their vehicles across the sand to rendezvous with Bembridge ILB.

Thankfully, it was discovered that the two individuals were safe and were simply night-fishing, but were advised to head to shore where they were met by HM Coastguard for welfare checks.

Rescue teams have now stood down from the incident, with the Bembridge Inshore Lifeboat rehoused shortly before 22:00.
