UPDATED: Police are attending a concern for welfare call on Ryde Pier this afternoon (Friday).
Island Echo understands a person is situated at the end of the structure and is threatening to jump into the Solent.
Ryde Inshore Rescue’s secondary lifeboat appears to have launched but is currently holding off the Appley station.
4 Police units responded to the scene at around 12:45.
UPDATE @ 13:20 – The situation has been brought to a safe conclusion.
Police have now left the scene and Ryde Inshore Rescue have been stood down.
UPDATE @ 14:07 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Police received information earlier this afternoon to suggest that a male wanted in connection with the theft of a mobile phone at Ryde Pier on Tuesday was inbound to the Island.
Officers moved in to make the arrest as the gentleman disembarked the Fast Cat, but it is understood he situated himself on the edge of the pier sparking fears he would jump into the sea.
The man has arrested and taken into police custody at Newport Police Station.
