Blackgang Chine has revealed that family favourite Colossus will be ‘swinging’ into the park for the 2024 season following its removal from Robin Hill earlier this year. Eagle-eyed islanders spotted Colossus, the much-loved galleon ship from Robin Hill being transported to the mainland earlier this month, sparking fears it had been sold – as first reported by Island Echo. However, Vectis Ventures, the parent company of Robin Hill and Blackgang Chine, confirmed it was simply going away for maintenance, and tonight’s announcement confirms that it will be returning to a new home at the Ventnor site. Park Manager Dan White said:
“We are excited to be bringing a new addition to Blackgang Chine for 2024. We will be sharing more on the attraction as time goes on, including behind the scenes of the build, the name, and its brand new look theme, which ties in perfectly to the Blackgang Chine brand. We can’t wait for guests to ride this season.”
Earlier this year Vectis Ventures announced Robin Hill was to be sold, and that it would trigger further investment into Blackgang Chine and provide an exceptional offering. Dominic Wray, Park Director said:
“This is the first step in our wider business strategy to create one really incredible park for the Isle of Wight. Blackgang Chine is an icon in the UK’s theme park industry, and we’re all very excited to continue investment, and enhance our guest experiences. It’s so important we continue to delight modern audiences, whilst holding on to our heritage which sees so many generations returning year on year. We think this new, and reimagined attraction does just that.”
Blackgang Chine opens for the 2024 season on the 23rd March and Season Passes remain on Early Bird prices of just £49 until then – with the addition of this new attraction, they will be better value than ever before.
