UPDATED: Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team, Cowes RNLI lifeboat and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are in attendance at an incident at Old Castle Point in East Cowes tonight (Sunday).

Emergency teams are working around the landslip area on the Esplanade to carry out what Cowes RNLI are describing as a medical evacuation.

UPDATE @ 21:10 – The Maritime and Coastguard Agency have confirmed that HM Coastguard were alerted to the incident by the Ambulance service at 20:00.

It is said a casualty has fallen at Old Castle Point, but the extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

Cowes RNLI are evacuating the individual by sea and relocating to rendezvous with the awaiting Ambulance further along the Esplanade.

UPDATE @ 21:35 – Cowes RNLI have conveyed the stretchered casualty – thought to be a female – to a pontoon near to Red Funnel’s East Cowes terminal tonight, where she is being transferred to an ambulance and onward to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport.

Coastguard teams have now left the scene at Old Castle Point and are expected to stand down from the incident shortly.

UPDATE @ 23:30 – It has been confirmed that a female has sustained serious hip, neck and back injuries whilst carrying out a walk around England in aid of the Help the Heroes charity.

It is said the woman fell heavily at around 15:00, but that it was not until earlier this evening that someone heard her cries for help.

A local resident expressed concern to  Island Echo at the scene that the casualty may be a female that he advised not to proceed around the landslip earlier on.
