HM Coastguard was tasked to reports of a calf that had fallen over the cliff edge near to St Catherine’s Lighthouse at Niton Undercliff earlier this evening (Monday).
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team were mobilised to the picturesque location at the most southerly point of the Island – Knowles Farm – at around 19:15.
The calf ended up in the tricky predicament on the beach directly below St Catherine’s Lighthouse after falling from the cliff above.
Coastguard Rescue Officers assessed the situation and it was deemed they were unable to rescue the animal, with a plan being drawn up to call in additional resources.
However, the calf was able to make its own way back up to the cliff top to join its friends once again.
The RSPCA were called to the scene to assess the animal, who was given a clean bill of health.
Coastguards stood down from the incident at around 21:00.
Surely chopper could be used can’t leave him like that

Don’t waste anymore brain cells people nature intervened and the calf saved itself at its own expense.
Put that animal in charge of the IWC for being so resourceful!
