Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor and the inshore lifeboat from Bembridge RNLI are conducting a search in the East Wight this evening (Friday).
Teams are carrying out a search on land and at sea between Forelands in Bembridge and Culver Down near Sandown.
Concerns for the welfare of a male were raised shortly before 18:30, sparking the search and rescue operation.
Shoreline searches are being carried out but nothing untoward has been found.
UPDATE – Search teams have now stood down from the incident.
Bembridge RNLI have confirmed they were alerted to a man possibly in difficulty in the water between Lane End and Whitecliff Bay.
During the first part of the search, the Norman Harvey D-Class lifeboat came across a yacht aground on Bembridge Ledge. Having assisted setting an anchor (it was a rising tide), she continued her search.
