Flames issuing from the chimney of a 3-storey property in Totland led to the mobilisation of fire crews from Freshwater and Newport last night (Sunday).
2 appliances and a water carrier were sent to the West Wight address when concerns were raised about the developing situation.
The first crew on scene, Freshwater’s retained firefighters, used a ChimFireStop for the initial swift attack from the ground followed by a stirrup pump from the ground and hose real jet from the roof.
The team worked together with their wholetime colleagues from Newport to extinguish the fire before it was able to spread or cause any serious damage.
In the past week the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have also attended 2 chimney fires in the village of Whitwell.
