UPDATED: A child has been hit by a car on St John’s Hill in Ryde this morning (Friday).
Police and paramedics are currently attending to the injured pedestrian close to the junction with Lower Highland Road. Emergency teams were called to the scene at just before 07:50.
The child’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening at this stage, but every precaution is being taken.
Traffic is backed up in the area however the road currently remains open in both directions.
UPDATE @ 08:40 – The casualty, a young boy, has been immobilised and is being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance after being hit by a car exiting a driveway. His injuries are not thought to be serious, but further checks are to be carried out.
It was initially feared that a skip lorry had made contact with the child but it has since been confirmed that a Volvo exiting a driveway clipped the boy – who was riding a bike – off of the pavement and into the road. A second child narrowly avoided being hit.
The scene has now been cleared.
