A main road between Newport and Carisbrooke has now reopened following the completion of emergency water repair works today (Wednesday).
Carisbrooke Road – which links traffic heading from Carisbrooke to Newport’s High Street, West Street, Trafalgar Road, and Drill Hall Road amongst others – had been closed since Monday to facilitate the replacement of a main communal pipe and box junctions.
Island Roads has confirmed that the road has now reopened.
Southern Vectis services which had been diverted due to the diversions in place are now running on their usual routes.
Twice yesterday I had cause to go in that direction, mid morning and early afternoon. Nobody was working, no vehicles in attendance, no people there. Why not? It could have been finished much sooner if they had got their act together. It is so frustrating we are so bad at this sort of thing on the Island.
