Vecta House Care Home in Newport has brought joy and cherished memories to resident Madge, a former Girlguiding Brown Owl by fulfilling her heartfelt wish to relive her days as a Brownie Leader at Wroxall.
After moving to Vecta House Madge often remembers her time with Girlguiding. Despite living with dementia, her memories of her time as Brown Owl remain vivid and joyful, leading her to express a desire to experience those moments once more.
Touched by Madge’s stories, Activities Co-ordinator Tanya Everson was determined to make her dream a reality. She reached out to Clare Williams Leader of 11th Newport Brownies, who enthusiastically agreed to arrange a special visit to Vecta House.
Clare and a group of Brownies visited Vecta House, bringing with them a treasure trove of Brownie memorabilia, including camp blankets with Girlguiding badges and books detailing the history and achievements of the organisation over the past century.
Madge joined the Brownies in a hands-on activity, creating bird feeders that will be hung in the Vecta House gardens for all residents to enjoy and Madge was presented with her own set of Brownie badges, rekindling the spirit of her cherished role.

Seeing her light up as she interacted with the Brownies and share her stories was truly heart-warming. It was a privilege to help her reconnect with such a significant part of her life.”
