A car has overturned on Middle Road near Calbourne this morning (Thursday).
Emergency services are responding to the incident near the junction with Pump Lane.
Island Echo understands 2 vehicles are involved, but no one is thought to have been seriously injured at this stage.
It’s reported that 1 vehicle rolled whilst trying to avoid a build up of traffic, and in turn has crashed onto the front of a second vehicle – thought to be a blue Kia.
Traffic is heavy in the area.
UPDATE @ 09:30 – Calbourne Road (known locally as Middle Road) has now been closed between Bettyhaunt Lane and Elm Lane.
UPDATE @ 10:30 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service mobilised 2 appliances to the scene of the crash, with 1 pump from Cowes stood down en-route. Newport’s wholetime crew carried out scene safety only.
1 person has been transferred into the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
The road remains closed.
UPDATE @ 11:25 – Middle Road has now re-opened following the recovery of both vehicles – a Skoda Octavia VRS and a Kia.

Rolled while trying to avoid a build up of traffic!!!!!!!!!!! Driving like a nutter then.?????
Glad nobody was hurt..Parking like a BMW.. where it wants and how it wants, even if it is upside down
As many now do, drive like they are the ‘only’ ones on the road, whether it be hammering it around blind bends, lurching across the other white line, or pulling up so fast at junctions that they stick out over the give way line, hoping ‘wrongly’ that you will give way to them because of their bad driving.
That or so far up your exhaust pushing and trying to bully you to drive at their dictate.
It is just the way the people ‘are’ and the joke is, often it is those with no work, and with all the time in the world who drive as if their life depended on it, when all of ours then does.
With more masse building, and thousands of cars extra alone in Ryde, things will get ever worse. This IS the good times. Watch and see
Nice cheap VRS going on eBay soon then lol!
Mmmm Skoda VRS… is that a fast car by any chance ? Well, it used to be… PMSL
They are when the correct way up and on all 4 wheels 🙂
Skoda VRS? That’s the ‘boy racer’ version, isn’t it?
Regular traffic Police car the really fast one is.
So all of us who comment on bad driving and are told not to because ‘we don’t know the true circumstances’ can now feel justified that most of the time most of the accidents are caused by nasty aggressive speeding idiots, who feel they own the road and everyone should give way to them. So agree with all the comments and wish we could find a way to punish idiots like this more effectively.
The pride and joy totalled. Oh dear how sad nevermind.
Put the remaining pieces of the offending car into a skip, advise the insurer the driver was racing/pacemaking,/undertaking a speed trial and they will not pay out a penny piece.
Have some evidence of the former details though, just in case.
So many nasty aggressive drivers up and down Alum Bay Old Road this afternoon. Just because their sat nav says it’s a unrestricted speed limit it is too narrow to travel at such speed. Also too narrow in places for two cars to pass. They completely ignored me while I waited in a passing place and just overtook me, causing the oncoming traffic to be blocked. There is no enjoyment in driving these days.
True, no pleasure in driving at all
Is this driver going to be prosecuted for dangerous driving or will it be put down to an accident like usual. These acts of gross incomperence in regards to road safet and the countless single vehicle crashes are not accidents they are plain and simple acts of dangerous driving and should be prosecuted as such.
Trying to avoid a build up of traffic, does this mean taking the other vehicles off the road ?
People that say it’s because off idiots that drive fast this is mostly a 60mph road and you getting people driving at 35/40mph there the ones causing some off these accidents cos you have to overtake them
I agree, but at the same time there’s reckless driving. ALOT of very slow drivers that can cause incidents too as it states in the Highway Code it is a driving offence to drive below 30mph in a national as it’s declared dangerous
Your comment is absolute proof that low intelligence is a massive factor in most of these wholly avoidable collisions.
No you do not. Speed limits are a legal limit to keep people safe not a target for buffoons to achieve in order to demonstrate their incompitence and lack of intelligence.
Just the abysmal driving on the Island, again. Yesterday on a trip from Ryde to Newport I witnessed,1. At a busy junction, a man did a right hand turn whilst on the phone. 2.. Lorry driver, driving whilst reading paperwork. 3. Lorry driver, behind the first, was on the phone.4. Lady, while negotiating a mini roundabout, was applying her face powder with a makeup brush. And we wonder why there are accidents!!
Theyre not accidents they are results of dangerous driving but the police allow it seemingly day after day, as evidenced by the sheer number.
I once saw a young woman driving down a short hill, which terminates in a mini-roundabout, whilst talking on her mobile in one hand, and lighting a cigarette with the other!
If you have them on dash cam you can report them now believe me it won’t have been the first time they’ve done it and they’ve got away with it so far one day it could be your child that isn’t lucky because of people like them
Seen that model of car driving like a knob for weeks in morning on the middle hope he gets banned
You should all just be glad, (this didn’t happen to you)
Or are you all saying you drive in a 60mph at 20mph because you don’t know what’s round the corner, everyone drives up to the limit, nothing suggests he/she went over that.
Most comments sound like from people who don’t even own a car.
The comments section should be only for people to pay respect or find out info on missing people etc
This paper has turned into a snakes pit
Did you honestly expect anything else from people posting on the internet?
