UPDATED: CAR CRASHES INTO SHOP ON VENTNOR HIGH STREET

A car has crashed into the front of a shop in Ventnor this afternoon (Wednesday), taking out a road sign in the process.

The incident involving a Citroen C4 Picasso has occurred outside Fez Barbers, close to Tesco Express at the bottom of Spring Hill.

It’s unclear at this stage if the vehicle rolled backwards into the shop, or whether it was being driven at the time of the impact.

Emergency services have been called to the scene. Island Roads have also been informed of the damaged directional arrow road sign which has been flattened by the C4.

UPDATE @ 17:20 – It has been confirmed that no one has been injured as a result of the single vehicle collision.

Police have confirmed that they were called at 15:46 today.

I, for one, am very glad that the occupants of the barber’s shop are all right! I am also glad the driver and his passenger, although confused and shaken, were seemingly all right. So much so that the 85year old gent who reversed into the shop was asking the PCSO on duty, at the scene, if he could now drive home in the same vehicle, even though a third of his car was hanging from the shop!
