A car has left the road and crashed head-on into a hedgerow in Nettlestone this morning (Saturday).
A silver Ford Ka, driven by a young female, is embedded in the hedge having seemingly lost control on a long right hand bend.
2 fire crews and Police are attending the scene but no one is trapped and the occupants appear to have escaped injury.
The incident – which has taken place on the boundary of Nettlestone and St Helens – occurred shortly before 10:40.
The main Nettlestone to St Helens road remains open in both directions.
Private recovery of the vehicle has been arranged.

No small wonder our insurance is ever higher. Perhaps these people ought to be on public transport for their safety as well as that of our good selves.
For it is ‘only’ lady luck which has provided yet ‘another’ single car accident from being carnage with innocents maimed for life or their loved ones arranging a funeral service.
Police should not just be grateful that ‘no one was hurt’ but sentence these idiots as though some innocent were injured or killed.
Too many people get away with too much.
Speed, Speed and more speed, unlikely to be a medical episode being so young.
As the story goes, she lost control, ” Why “…
Must be Island roads fault!
Must be inexperienced idiot fault that have no sense of danger…along with a bad attitude…
You never know it could be a medical episode….
Is what people usually bleat if the driver is elderly.
Incorporate all possibilities and stop being so ageist.
Mark dont worry its all the same egg sperts that leave comments on here and the just love the word idiot before they know whats what
As the story goes, she lost control, ” Why “…Probably checking her hair in the mirror when the phone rang.
Any thing could of happened all the so called perfect drivers commented should keep there opinions to there self
If people didn’t have opinions then there would be no comments section. If you are that much of a snowflake that you can’t bear hearing poeple with opinions why not stop reading the comments section? Or better still do what you did and leave a passive aggressive comment so that everyone knows how holier than thou you are. I’m more offended by your comment than the comment that you were offended by. I wish I had never read this now – you have ruined my day. i am going for a lie down…
So what’s your opinion then
My opinion is that – things could have been completely different if they hadn’t lost control of the car – I blame Thatcher!
Perhaps you should practice what you preach, bloody snowflake…
Jesus Christ, and here I thought I was a good troll
Sad state of affairs when someone takes pride in being a troll
You clearly haven’t been on the internet long enough. Or are you a stuck up, middle class snob who voted for Corbyn?
As the roads are now probably slippery after a long spell of dry weather, and now rain, I imagine the young lady was caught out and skidded whilst traversing the ‘long right hand bend’
I hope she recovers from the shock, and takes bends slower, particularly after rain.
In other words she was not fully in control of her car because she was not driving according to road conditions.
Whilst the ‘young lady’ could have likely slid after the dry spell on a long bend, one has to then ask, ‘why’ didn’t every car with young drivers do likewise on that road this morning?
Too fast, bald tyres, or just poor driving.
The highway code and driving instructors both teach the risk of long dry spells be dangerous when it does rain on roads.
Likely didn’t listen more interested in what colour dots to paint on her nails.
Or her phone
Hope there was no hedgehogs or birds in a nest in that hedge. Driving over here now needs a massive amount of hidden camera’s as too many speed, drive right up your exhaust pipe, or overtake in stupid places.
People will be killed if something isn’t done soon. Can only hope it is the idiots not the innocence IF it must happen, but I bet it won’t be.
All the years I’ve driven that way , I’ve had no problems , just saying !
I think you might want to re- phrase that comment. I know what you mean, but others might think that you’ve always driven “that way” 😉 lol.
Yes Remus ‘all the years’ which implies you’ve been driving for years. The report says ‘young’ girl which implies to me she is an inexperienced driver and we all know they drive too fast. Just saying.
They go way to fast down that road it should be 20mph if a child ran out into road they’d have no chance. Anyone pulling out of their drives are at risk everytime.
Stupid person. I use that road she could have killed me. Slow, means drive slowly. Even more so in wet conditions. God help us all should be endure a icy Winter this year. A&E will need the Corvid beds for RTA victims at this rate.
Bloody hedgerows they have a habit of ‘jumping’ out on you when your not looking!!!! Or perhaps the young inexperienced motorists was driving too fast and lost it on the bend….glad she/they suffered only embarrassment and did not injure themselves! I would strongly suggest you slow down whoever you are.
Thankyou for your advice my blackbox will show you i was going to the speed limit, thanks for all your concerns im okay and uninjured xoxo
We are all glad you are fine, and as you were driving within the limits, what do you think happened?
Were the tyres the right pressure, a blow out, or bald?
Perhaps oil had leaked onto the road, or loose grit?
Just asking as to know, means others may learn from your horror, as, like I stated, not to be nasty, but factually, others must have driven that stretch and no doubt at faster speeds, without such happening. So, something must have been amiss.
Not putting any racist stuff on today then
Why does the Island Echo make comments in it’s articles which are unsubstantiated and certain information which had no bearing on the newsworthiness of the story. You do not know if “ a young female seemingly lost control or not “ . I don’t care if the driver was male or female. I do care if anyone was injured. This sort of reporting leads to all sorts of speculation and unnecessary comments
Come on, Eileen – (-Sorry, -‘just realised what I typed)! We’re talking about the “press” here, and we all know how important a newsworthy story is to them, true or not! 🙂
Yes, it would be quite an achievement if the echo made an otherwise mundane story interesting by adding some facts. However, it was good to read in the comment above that the lady in question was ok!
You are all having a go at this girl It was a accident leave it at that. Some of your comments are rubbish, I drive all day and older drivers are a nightmare ,don’t indicate think they own the road due to there age. Sorry I forgot over 60 and you don’t have accidents,
And your comment isn’t rubbish? What age range are you in? Do you consider that you are the perfect driver? Drivers of all ages can be a nightmare. You are probably a driver that drives all day and tailgates and pushes the car in front cause you’re in a hurry. A girl had an unfortunate accident so where in hell does an ‘old’ driver come into this instance. If you can’t post a sensible comment don’t bother. Glad the girl is o.k.
What is it with drivers on the IOW. Can’t drive around a bend.
Trying to find an electrician to stop the short circuits in your brain that cause all these sparks. Don’t worry will find someone that can fix you and get you back to normality. If not then stand on one of the bends and help give out a warning on these dangerous bends of ours. Keep glowing.
Were they on the phone?
