A car has crashed into the front of an empty commercial premises in Sandown this morning (Friday).
The Citroen has left the carriageway and gone into the front of the former chip shop in Sandown High Street.
Police are in attendance having been called to the scene at just before 11:00.
Thankfully, no serious structural damage has been caused and the occupants of the vehicle have escaped serious injury.
An elderly female passenger is being assessed by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. The male driver has escaped injury and has passed a roadside breath test.
The road remains open.
UPDATE – The vehicle has now been recovered by a local agent.
I hope they are prosecuted for driving without care and attention and their licence is removed.
Have you no compassion?. The poor man may have have an attack of some sort.
Nice to see the keyboard warriors at it again. It was an accident. Maybe gain some compassion and stop being such an idiot.
Stick to making cupcakes as you clearly have no evidence to come to this conclusion so stop making assumptions before knowing the facts.
Hope the occupants are ok and that no other parties were involved.
What is it like being perfect ?
so if you have an accident at the wheel, will you expect to be prosecuted and have your license removed then, accidents happen, someone could have run across the road in front of them and they swerved to avoid them …always best to leave these sorts of comments until true facts have come about
So you saw what happened did you?
Don’t worry, she is obviously a cupcake.
HOW ???
Glad all the occupant’s of the car appear to be OK Maybe the owner of the building will take the opportunity to tidy it up. Been an eyesore for years. The landlord’s dont seem to care.
Shame it didn’t do a bit more damage to the eyesore do the owner has to really tidy it up glad the people in the car are ok
How did that happen?maybe he should consider getting the bus in future.
Maybe you should consider showing some humanity and being kind?
Maybe you should get a zip fitted
Glad no one was on the pavement how did that happen I wonder
Hand over your license!
Another elderly islander putting other people’s life’s at risk ….
Like the people who drive while high or drunk. Or the boy racers who speed around with no care for anyone?
Who said the driver was elderly?
Why are the over 70’s not given a new driving test? Half the time they cannot tell the difference between a shop and a car park!
The same reason snorted/swilled up roaring boy racers aren’t given spot checks for insurance, license,MOT. They are more of a danger than older experienced drivers.
Well said. Anyway how do we know that the driver was elderly? We certainly dont know what happened.
All ages have records for crashes, so just be grateful nobody was hurt.
It is a logical assumption looking at the type and size of vehicle involved…
Good job our law courts don’t take your rationale or we would still be hanging innocents from trees
Pensioners on this Island shouldn’t be allowed to drive past the age of 65. Once they reach this grand milestone they should all stick to the buses after they’ve all had the Covid-19 jab obviously.
And you shouldn’t be able to comment on social media but they still allow it.
What a nasty piece of work you are .
I hope your rember that statement when you reach 65. Ignorance is bliss.
Only on the Island? Let’s get things straight. Firstly – I gave up work at thirty five years old. That makes me a pensioner. Secondly – The state age of a pensioner in this country is 66. Do us all a favour and keep your selfish bigoted thoughts to yourself.
To The Grim Reaper – actually I think you’ll find giving up work at 35 makes you unemployed NOT a pensioner…
Let me guess you’ve been on benefits ever since like most of the island
Im 66 and a bus drive and im considered to be a professional drive are you????
I’ve dealt with a lot younger than this who in turn should not be on the road at all.
I gather that you are Mr perfect driver and have never had an RTC but witnessed loads in your rear view mirror, and yes i have dealt with that sort as well.
Hey Ron, like I said to Boris j, where does it state that the driver was over 70?
Buildings owners have been advised. It was due to have had buildind work started last year, having finally had planning approved. Unfortunately Covid intervened.
He’s had his chips!
Would be interesting to know if there was anyone parked on the left.
I’ve had people pull out without looking along there several times.
And Me,. Also flinging their doors open without looking
What a great place for the police car to park looks like the road is closed to me
Looks Battered, dodgy Plaice
Looks like he’s ‘chipped’ the paintwork. What an awkward plaice to crash
Nothing fishy going on
The damage done was 3 thousand pounds worth of improvement!!
Guess driver did not realize the drive through was closed !!!
Thank god it was a Friday !, coz when the chips are down even the car gets
BATTERED
You know its no joke someone could have been seriously injured, and your making a joke about it. Thats someones parent/grandparent/sibling. Show some compassion
My comment was made AFTER it was stated that nobody was seriously injured. I’m as compassionate as anyone but in these dire times I try to find a little humour. Maybe you should do the same.
