A Vauxhall Astra has careered into a hedge at a busy traffic light junction near Brading – thought to be as a result of a power cut knocking out the lights.
The permanent traffic lights at the junction of Beaper Shute and Carpenters Road have been rendered non operational due to a power cut in the area, sparked by an arcing electricity pole in Ashey.
It’s thought that this outage has been a contributory factor to the single vehicle collision, in which the black Vauxhall Astra has continued almost straight on when exiting Carpetners Road and turning right towards Ryde from St Helens.
It is understood the female driver has escaped the vehicle without injury.
Motorists should take extra care in the area whilst the lights are out of action. Power is expected to be restored by 11:30.

When we see traffic lights out of order, why would anyone assume the right of way without due care and attention????
Jo blogs is dead right. The common sense thing to do when you see the traffic lights not working is to drive with extra care and vigilance. Sadly, common sense seems to be in short supply with many of our drivers on the island, male or female!!
Well said i agree with what you & Jo blogs have both said.
So funny made my day glad it’s not me hehehe
“….in which the black Vauxhall Astra has continued almost straight on when exiting Carpetners Road”
Eyesight is always useful in these circumstances, especially in spotting a treeline across your path of travel and knowledge of a T-junction ahead.
Lipstick or phone? Undue care eitherway
Both ..what a plonker
Unless you know the circumstances?????
You should Bob off !!!
It proves you.have a low IQ because you are an attention seeking numpty!!!!!!
Can’t see how the traffic light outage and driving into the hedge are connected. Did the traffic light outage have an affect on turning the steering wheel far enough to make the turn?
Left hand down a bit.
The Navy Lark 😉
How, light’s or no lights highway code is give way to right .
Another Numpty, since when have Traffic Lights been responsible
for a vehicle entering an Hedge.
Only Numpty is you rogue trader
Pissed again Paul was you
Do they no longer teach pupils to look where they are going? This could have caused a major incident, fatalities even. Why do people assume they have right of way? At that T junction you would have to creep out, after ensuring the road was clear, but of course that requires that you look where you are going.
I saw the lady and her car I assume she has passed her test a few years ago let’s face it we are the worst County in Great Britain with driving incidents, and complaining isn’t going to improve the situation it’s here to stay especially those who take drugs and think they are Gods best drivers
How can you blame that on the fact that the traffic lights are not working ??? Utterly rediculous excuse.
There might be more to this than what’s reported here.
Having driven past later this morning, my initial reaction was that maybe two cars were approaching the lights, neither gave way and one ended up in the hedge.
Yes, a single vehicle collision, but two cars involved.
But, as with everyone else, I’m only guessing.
Im blaming the hedge, as it was coming in the opposite direction
Your entitled to your opinion…
Probably, but that’s why we give way to right . When lights at Coppins bridge fail hundreds if not thousands still negotiate round safely . Not sure about if St Marys fail ?.
you really can’t park there mate..
How on earth did we manage before before traffic lights ? well we just did.
Its simple somebody was not paying attention !!!
Forgot to make a ‘left or right turn Clyde’
Not sure how driving straight into the hedge can be blamed on the traffic lights not working!
Only on the IOW!!!!!!!!
The hedge obviously pulled out in front of her!
Always give way to any form of traffic from the right, unless the traffic lights are working!
