Captain Shane Wood has begun his new role as Harbour Master for Cowes Harbour Commission, taking over from Ed Walker.
From Cadet to Captain, Master Mariner Captain Shane Wood has spent the last 38 years at sea. For 30 years he served all over the world in a variety of operational theatres with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. More recently, and prior to joining the Harbour Commission, Captain Wood spent 8 years as Master aboard clearance and aggregate dredgers.
He is now undertaking the statutory responsibilities of Harbour Master for Cowes Harbour Commission and is also training to become the principal Pilot for Cowes.
Shane takes over the role from Ed Walker after completing a handover period. Having been Harbour Master in Cowes for the past 2 years, Ed will now be moving on to a new role at sea.
Captain Wood has said:
“I’m honoured to join Cowes Harbour Commission and being selected to take over as Harbour Master. Over the last few weeks, Ed and I have been through a handover process to make the transition seamless. I look forward to continuing the good work Ed has done during his time as Harbour Master ensuring that Cowes Harbour is a safe, pleasurable and sustainable environment for all harbour users.”
Gary Hall, CEO of Cowes Harbour Commission has welcomed Shane:
“The Harbour Master is a vitally important role and in Captain Wood I’m absolutely confident we have the right person to continue to provide a safe harbour for all of our users. He is joining the Harbour Commission team at an exciting time where several key projects will be delivered to enhance both the harbour and the facilities on offer to boat owners. I therefore look forward to working with Shane as we deliver the Harbour Commissions 5-Year Strategy”.
