Wightlink have cancelled 5 sailings on their West Wight ferry service this evening (Monday) due to a mechanical issue.
It has been confirmed that the 18:00 and 19:15 sailings from Lymington have been pulled, alongside the 17:05, 19:00 and 20:10 from Yarmouth.
No details have been provided on what exactly the issue is.
Meanwhile, over at Fishbourne, there are delays of over 35 minutes on the Wightlink Fishbourne-Portsmouth car ferry service.
The cross-Solent operator apologises for the changes to passenger’s travel plans.

If you need to be at a certain place at a certain time then the golden rule is never ever book with Shitelink.
This is ridiculous. Not only are many of us commuters trying to keep our jobs and catch up on work now we have to contend with the idiots of Wightlink running a much needed service into the ground. I strongly propose a protest against them. Look back through the history of their mechanical issues and tell me it’s normal for.l a company to run like this. Mr Greenfield should be ashamed. Better still he should stop running the business from the bathroom cubicles and leaving his customer facing staff deal with customer who i suspect at this stage are demented with such a p**s poor service. Change needs to happen.

They shouldn’t be allowed to get away with this appauling service. Cancellations, at this, the busiest time of the year. This never happened before years ago. In and out right on time. This latest company that now owns and runs Wight link need investigating.
That useless MP won’t do anything about it either, we need a ferry service that’s run and owned by island people, we could all buy shares through our council tax.

I don’t no why shitelink ferries from yarmouth to Lymington are being cancelled as I use to commute from yarmouth to Lymington a year ago the ferries had new engine’s on there ferries so why they keep cancelling the ferries they must have a arm length of excuses

Mechanical issue, or do they mean, the less and fuller the ferries we can run, the more profit the company makes?
They have three ferry’s at Lymington Are they all broken? mostly I see them sitting there doing nothing, I’ve been travelling this route for 33years and it’s now the worst it has been, definitely can’t be described as a service, take their licence away if they have one.
Thank goodness they don’t run cruise ships across the Atlantic with such unreliable craft and staff so susceptible to illness.

Yes mate there has to be a legal requirement for staff to passenger ratio… I’m not sure on how many but my buddy works on red funnel and if they are 2 or even 3 staff down limited passengers are allowed on.. My bet is shitelink recruit younger staff where wage is very poor but we all know youngers like to phone in sick no matter what lol..but what I do know is that management and other higher jobs on red funnel have even dropped their desk to help out on deck with the floor staff
I think people who live here or like me and my family come here for holiday should all ask for euro tunnel and this will put the shit up their backsides and might get better ferry service
These ferries are not broken down ,and they are not short staffed due to illness.when the boats are only half full they cancel sailings either side of that boat fill it up and save themselves a fortune. Wightlink have been cancelling ferries on the Yarmouth to Lymington route for years ,and always use the same excuse.The passengers are let down all the time causing mayhem for all of us ,but they are not worried about the public just what they can save.Unfortunately it’s the way of the world . Dick Turpin would turn in his grave if he could see how much money this company robs of us all.

Why are people complaining we are fortunate to have a private enterprise supported by our local MP serving the Isle of Wight, what do people want a secure link that is governed by statute the cost to travel to and from your home certainly not when a private enterprise can make a profit from it. Is it not time we start supporting private enterprise and have a positive attitude towards the ferry companies that are only trying to maximize profit, so what if a few people are unable to travel or get back to there home, you have to remember you do not have a right to use this service or that they have to provide you with the service you think they should provide. So please stop complaining about the ferry companies they have a job to do and that is serving shareholders.
What a tosser. You have obviously not been a victim of Shitelink. When the time comes when you miss your hospital appointment that you have waited weeks for or your flight has left without you or perhaps making you two hours late for a job interview I doubt you will hold this scurrilous company with such regard.
Certainly have had major issues when traveling on and off the Island, I have missed connections on the mainland, have not made engagements that I was attending, I have had to cancel on commitments as unable book or unable to pay for the crossing. But they are a private enterprise with no statue to supply any kind of service, they are fully supported by our MP and council so why complain, it is what it is. If you do not like it can I suggest you propose a positive way forward, the most credible suggestion is a fixed link, but horror and howls of protest at anything that gives people a right to travel by statute, god forbid any suggestion of travel without restrictions.
Problem being, the ferries have grown ever larger for firms to max profits in the busy times, BUT these ferries are costly to run, and so if not filled to a certain capacity, then an excuse is made not to have that crossing.
People would rather be told the truth than be treated as fools.

Not fit for purpose
A bridge must be the obvious, it’s time the government bailed out the island with support for a fixed link to the mainland. The young people of this island deserve a chance to get decent jobs without moving away, just because richer people who move over here want to pull up the drawbridge.

This so called service is now at its lowest ebb wightlink don’t care about people on the island all they want is your money and as much of it that they can get,Our MP needs to step in and sort this out but maybe he has got shares in the company so is keeping his mouth shut
