An emergency closure has been put in place on Green Street in Ryde this afternoon (Tuesday) due to a burst water main.
Southern Water engineers are on site and are preparing to commence repairs to the 2-inch pipe. The burst has resulted in water flowing down the carriageway.
Green Street has been closed in both directions between West Street and High Street/St John’s. The diversion route is High Street, Swanmore Road, West Street, Lind Street, Union Street, Esplanade, East Hill Road, Alexandra Road, St John’s Road and St John’s Hill.
The issue comes as Southern Water begins a major water main replacement programme in nearby Ashey, which is set to cause at least 20 weeks of disruption for motorists in Ryde.
It is unknown when the road will re-open.
