Island Echo is this week celebrating a fantastic start to 2015 having reached two huge milestones during the month of January, as the Island’s news source continues to grow at a rapid rate.
Over 100,000 unique visitors made their way to www.islandecho.co.uk between 1st – 31st January, visiting a total of 250,919 times. Previously, July 2014 held the record as the most popular month with 244,931 visits and still retains the most page views at 1.3million.
The increase in visitors to the site comes following the grounding of the Hoegh Osaka, which Island Echo reported first back on 3rd January.
With 2015 well underway Island Echo retains its position as one of the leading Island news sources, topping Google page rankings and seeing the highest levels of engagement and growth on social media websites such as Facebook.
A total of 9,200 people ‘Like’ the Island Echo Facebook page – legitimate likes that have not been boosted or bought – and over 5,200 followers regularly stay up-to-date with all the latest through Twitter.
Darren Toogood, Editor of Island Echo, said:
“To see such fantastic reader statistics is a real boost for Island Echo despite breaking news on the Isle of Wight having been somewhat quiet over the past few months, which is of course an area that we specialise in.
“Readers are now experiencing a wide range of news stories across the website but we know the readership still turn to Island Echo for the latest breaking news, first.
“We are only scraping the barrel of what is possible and 2015 is set to be the best year yet with new features and more resources being made available.
“I’m pleased to say the new website has been a real success, although we are continuing to make minor adjustments here and there.
