A street in Ryde has been partially cordoned off due to a building being deemed unsafe by the Isle of Wight Council.
Heras fencing has been erected surrounding a residential address on John Street tonight (Thursday) after what is understood to be a road traffic collision at the end of July.
The homeowner returned from the mainland on 4th August to find the front wall of their property all caved in as if a vehicle had smashed into it. Inside, the radiator had come off the wall and there was damage upstairs too.
Police were contacted following the discovery but they had not received any reports of such a collision, prompting CCTV footage to be reviewed.
It is now understood a vehicle smashed into the building before driving off without leaving any details. The incident is thought to have taken place around lunchtime on Wednesday 26th July.
A crack has formed at the front of the home and therefore the structure has been unsafe by the Council’s building control officers.
It is thought around £20,000 of work is needed to repair the damaged building.
