UPDATED: An apparent broken prow chain has resulted in the suspension of the Cowes Floating Bridge tonight (Friday).
The East Cowes to Cowes service was brought to a halt at around 19:00 when 1 of 2 chains used to raise and lower Floating Bridge No. 6’s ramp broke.
The incident is said to have happened mid-crossing, but the troubled vessel managed to make it to Cowes where it now sits with an obvious issue to the starboard side (looking on).
It is understood the replacement foot passenger launch is in operation this evening.
The Isle of Wight Council are yet to comment on the matter.
UPDATE SATURDAY @ 11:02 – The Cowes Floating Bridge remains suspended this morning and is likely to be out of action all weekend.
A passenger launch will be in operation from 05:00 to 22:30 today and from 07:30 to 22:30 tomorrow (Sunday).
