tescoexpresslakehill400A brand new Tesco Express store has opened in Lake this week and celebrated its launch with a donation to nearby Broadlea Primary School.

Tina Bridges, a Year 4 teacher, and pupils from the school were the guests of honour when the new Express store opened at Lake Hill on Tuesday. The children were invited to cut a ribbon and declare the new store officially open.

The former Old Manor public house has been converted in a short space of time, with parking available at both the front and rear of the new store. It’s the company’s third Express store on the Island sitting alongside existing convenience stores at Ventnor and Wootton and the main Extra store in Ryde.

tescoexpresslakehill3As part of the opening celebrations, store manager, Daniel Ringer and his team presented Miss Bridges with a cheque for £500 for the school. The store chose to donate to the school as part of its commitment to supporting the local community and promoting healthy eating – the school is currently raising funds to help equip a newly refurbished cookery room, where children can learn to make healthy and nutritious meals.

Following the opening, Daniel and his team presented the children with two trolleys of Tesco baking and cake-making ingredients to ensure the new cookery room’s cupboards are fully stocked.

Tesco Express store manager, Daniel said:

“We were delighted to be able to support Broadlea Primary School and help turn their new cookery room into the perfect place to learn all about the benefits of healthy eating. We are so pleased that Mrs Bridges and the children came to open the new store and join in the celebrations with us.”

Mrs Leppard, the Headteacher from Broadlea Primary School, said:

Daniel added:

“We are really enjoying meeting our new customers and we hope that Tesco will become a key part of the local community.”

Store opening hours are seven days a week from 06:00 until 23:00 and for added convenience the store has a free cash machine, self-service tills, Click & Collect, mobile phone top-up facility, National Lottery counter, bakery, beers, wines and spirits.
