Islanders who had planned to spend the Christmas period with their loved ones will have to think again, with the Xmas Bubble allowing 3 households of any size to come together reduced to just Christmas Day.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced this afternoon (Saturday) that 3 households will only be able to come together on 25th December, throwing Boxing Day plans into turmoil.
It was previously announced that households could travel across the country and spend time together between 23rd and 27th December but that has now been withdrawn.
Here on the Isle of Wight, under Tier 1 restrictions, friends and family can still meet over the festive period as long as there are 6 or fewer people together at any one time. This will not apply on Christmas Day, when 3 households will be permitted to mingle.
Millions of people across London and the South East have been thrown into a Tier 4 lockdown and will spend Christmas on their own with households not permitted to mingle or stay overnight elsewhere.
Boris can do one .fed up of the outright lies from our so called government.

Announcing it weeks ago, BEFORE we booked expensive ferry tickets would have been humane.
Yes we can change the booking, but for when?
No chance of a Christmas Day ferry and booking for a random date in 2021 could easily end up the same way.
Just like the area I’m coming from, the area I was going to has less than 3 cases per 100,000 people – hardly a hotspot!
Will squeezing onto packed public transport in order to travel two days later really be safer? I think not.
I could always stay on the island and fight the hordes who now find they need food because their travel plans have been cancelled, I suppose.
People who would have previously followed the guidelines will now be making up their own rules.

There is plenty of food grown and reared locally but then it gets put on lorry’s and sent to greedy supermarkets via greedy ferry’s most of our food comes via Europe big problems in new year think about it !
With a little sense used, test lorry drivers when they arrive the port before hand.

I do not consent to this fraud. Luckily it doesn’t matter what my opinion is; none of my family or friends have any intention of complying with any of this nonsense. The government would do well to check their own statistics, they would clearly see that Covid19 is endemic. No matter what restrictions we try it will still infect us, just as the flu has for donkeys years.
Arnie, but this new variant mutation is rumoured to be far more catching and may affect the young not just the old and vulnerable as the old virus seems to mainly take. IF, this is so, then very serious for the world. NOT just flu.
I sincerely hope your friends and family do not spread this virus whilst refusing to comply with the law, and that they are arrested and charged accordingly.

This new mutation is rumoured to be very easy to catch, even compared to the original, and may have mutated to take the young this time not just elderly people. Only chit chat but would explain the Gov’s panic measures.

Seems it’s time to say ‘goodbye’ to ‘living’ life. Pretty much everything cancelled this year, now Christmas cancelled for the vast majority of the UK. ‘existence’ seems to be the new way of life now, social isolation, no being able to spend time with friends and family. We keep on hearing vaccines are being rolled out across the country, but really this still feels like there is no end in sight to this nightmare. Wish we could see an end to these horrid times we’re currently living in.

Just checked the timetable and, with just two ferries on Christmas day in each direction you would be sailing out on the 10:30 then driving straight back onto the same ferry to come back on the 12:00. If you could actually get a ticket, of course.
Whilst this may please the anti-ferry pitchfork and blazing torches brigade it will leave at least one vulnerable (but vaccinated) 80 year old sitting alone this Christmas.
