The discovery of a suspected hand grenade has led to a call out for the Royal Navy’s Bomb Disposal team this evening (Tuesday). Explosive Ordnance Disposal experts from Portsmouth have responded to the rural village of Niton. Island Echo understands a piece of suspected unexploded ordnance – thought to be a grenade – has been located in a pile of scrap metal at Fields Nursery off Town Lane. The bomb disposal experts arrived on the Isle of Wight at just before 18:00, on a ferry from Portsmouth. It is the second time in the past week that the Royal Navy has been called into action on the Isle of Wight… a suspected mine was destroyed by means of a controlled explosion at Grange Chine, Brighstone last Thursday evening.
