Blue House students from The Bay CE Schools Secondary site raised over £1,200 for Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat last month.
The Blue House community day – held on 11th October – was put on to raise money for the Blue House charity ‘Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat.’
Over 300 students and staff completed a mini marathon course, running past ‘London Landmarks,’ including over a homemade Tower Bridge, Cutty Sark, past Buckingham Palace and down The Mall!
All students paid £1 to wear mufti clothes and students from Blue House Council sold 400 bags of pick n mix to go towards the charity. The Blue House Student Council now has the important task of naming Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat’s tractor as a thank you for all of their fundraising over the last few years.
The day ended with Blue House Quiz, where 30+ teams of students and staff battled each other to become quiz champions. The winning teams won prizes from local companies including: Love Running, The Little Isle of Wight Company, TJs Gym, Sandown Soccer, Morrisons and The Bay Vegan Deli and Coffee House.
Blue House Community Day was organised by Head of Blue House, Gareth Bricknell who ran the London Marathon in 2021. Mr Bricknell wanted to inspire students to push themselves and to understand the importance of fundraising and the impact it has on charities.
Mr Bricknell, Head of Blue House said:
“Well done to everyone involved in the community day, it was great to have so many students take part in the mini marathon and to raise money for ‘Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat,’ a charity in the heart of our local community.
“Days like this really do show what a fantastic Community we have here at The Bay.”
The total amount raised for Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboats is £1,216.44.
