An Isle of Wight village’s Church of England primary school has kept up ‘good’ and ‘outstanding’ outcomes since an inspection over 5 years ago.
Pupils ‘enjoy attending’, ‘achieve well’ and can ‘take up the many available enrichment opportunities’ at Bembridge CE Primary School, inspectors concluded after visiting on July 1 and 2.
In December 2019, the government inspectorate rated the primary ‘good’ for quality of education, personal development, leadership and management and early years provision as well as ‘outstanding’ for behaviour and attitudes.
These standards have been maintained, according to Ofsted’s latest report which acting headteacher Theresa Wall said she was “absolutely delighted” to share.
The report says:
“The school’s values of ‘love, courage and respect’ are evident throughout the school, where pupils strive to demonstrate them.
“The school is ambitious for pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
“Pupils have the chance to take up the many available enrichment opportunities. These include sports clubs, such as football, tag rugby and fencing. There are also opportunities to develop pupils’ talents in art and drama.”

On what Bembridge Primary could do to improve, the report said ‘on occasion’ the ‘precise subject-specific vocabulary’ pupils need to know is ‘not secured’, limiting achievement.

“The outcome confirms that Bembridge Primary School continues to be judged as a good school overall. The report highlights the school’s ambition for all children and recognises our ongoing commitment to improvement and development, with children firmly at the heart of everything we do.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Bembridge Primary, whose dedication, teamwork, and hard work played a vital role in this success. I would also like to thank our wider Bembridge community for your continued support — it truly makes a difference.”
