The Isle of Wight is about to make literary history – and local residents are being invited to play a key role in its creation.
Organisers of the brand-new Isle of Wight Poet Laureate Programme, launching in January 2026, are calling on Islanders to join the steering committee that will guide the initiative from idea to reality.
The Poet Laureate Programme will champion poetry, creativity, and community voices across the Island through public events, school workshops, publications, and island-wide celebrations. Committee members will help shape the programme’s vision, select the Island’s very first Poet Laureate, and ensure the project reflects the diversity and vibrancy of Island life.
No formal poetry background is required – organisers are looking for people from all walks of life who are passionate about the arts, literature, and community engagement.
