Bembridge RNLI came to the aid of a 30ft yacht on passage from France this morning (Sunday).
The All Weather Lifeboat ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ was tasked to launch by Solent Coastguard at 09:46 to assist the yacht with 4 persons on board who were suffering from fatique, engine failure and flat batteries south of the Nab Tower.
As communications were patchy, due to no power for VHF and they only had a mobile phone as a back up, it took the volunteer Bembridge crew a little time to locate the yacht.
Eventually the casualty vessel was put under tow to Portsmouth; however as Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue were out on their normal Sunday patrol, the tow was transferred to them south of Spitbank Fort and the Alfred Albert Williams returned to Bembridge and was recovered by 11:45.
Today’s incident is the second in as many days for Bembridge RNLI after towing a speedboat into Bembridge Harbour yesterday afternoon (Saturday).
