Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat launched to assist a 40ft yacht with a failed engine just south of the Nab Tower this morning (Monday).
The ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ launched at around 11:45 at the request of Solent Coastguard to assist the Swan 40 sailing yacht with 3 crew onboard.
The casualty vessel was on a delivery trip to Finland but had become becalmed in the shipping channel just to the south of the Nab Tower.
Conditions were very benign so it did not take long for the yacht to be located and a tow established to Portsmouth. The tide had not made enough to risk entering Bembridge Harbour.
Having berthed the yacht safely alongside Endeavour Quay, the lifeboat returned to Bembridge and was recovered by 14:15.
