HM Coastguard responded to reports of an unusual and potentially suspicious object in the water off Bembridge yesterday (Monday).
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team were mobilised to the East Wight coast at just gone 15:00 after a member of the public raised concerns about something they had seen in the water.
Coastguard Rescue Officers were able to rule out the object being a body or piece of ordnance, instead confirming that it was just a marker buoy,
The incident was deemed a false alarm with good intent.
The caller has been praised as doing the right thing in the circumstances.
