The Environment Agency has cordoned off part of the beach at Ryde due to deep sink holes appearing in the sand.
The holes have appeared around the Environment Agency’s Cornwall Slip pumping station and outfall.
A member of the public discovered the situation on Wednesday.
Ryde Town Council has shared photos of the area and is warning members of the public to keep away from the fenced off areas.

🙂
Deeply
I had plans to start researching sinkholes
But they fell through……….
It’s been like that for a year. I’ve fallen down 2 holes. I think when the tide comes in it makes the hole.
Amey are looking into the holes to see if they can use them for landfill
Or is it the start of a tunnel to England?
Likely a leak from the sewage, so looks like a ‘big job’ to me.
Isn’t that the original site of the old outlet from Monkton Mead?
Sounds a leak from the pumping station washing away the sand.
I don’t think there’s a grain of truth in it
Island roads will be all over that..whole of ryde closed off ..47 men and 17 diggers and 400 tonnes of tarmac..job done…

Aah but only 1 of the 47 will be working , the rest will watch
Island Roads have been finding sink holes in our road network for years…..and that’s after they’ve repaired it.
