Police have cordoned off a fire-hit home in Binstead as they launch an investigation into a suspected late-night arson attack. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was called to Sherbourne Avenue at around 23:45 last night (Sunday) to reports of a property alight. 3 appliances from Ryde and Newport were mobilised to the scene, with crews arriving to discover flames erupting from the front door, reaching up to the height of the roof. The semi-detached home has been significantly affected, with smoke damage evident on both the ground and 1st floors.
Thankfully, no one is thought to have been injured. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has now launched an arson investigation due to the suspicious circumstances of the blaze. The property has been sealed off and officers are maintaining a scene guard. It appears the fire may have been started by something being put through the letterbox. The crime scene is just 25m away from another suspected arson attack that occurred on Broadway Crescent on Friday night, as first reported by Island Echo. Police are expected to provide an update later this morning…
