A pair of males from Leeds – aged 50 and 17 respectively – have been arrested following an incident that unfolded in Whitwell earlier today (Tuesday) after several vehicles were seen to contravene a no-entry sign.
Following complaints from members of the public that some motorists were ignoring the no entry signs on Whitwell High Street, officers attended the area this morning to conduct traffic management.
Just after 11:30 a white Tesla and a brown Mini both contravened a no entry sign at the junction with Bannock Road and were stopped by officers.
The driver of the Tesla, a 50-year-old man from Leeds, became aggressive towards officers, refused to provide details and tried to drive away. He was arrested on suspicion of failing to provide details and for contravening a no entry sign and has been released under investigation.
While the driver was being arrested, the passenger of the Mini grabbed an officer around the neck from behind. A 17-year-old male from Leeds was arrested on suspicion of assaulting police. He remains in custody.
In the commotion caused by the officer being assaulted, a woman in her 70s also suffered a minor leg injury
Great to see people are finally getting caught for their
crimes.
Let’s hope plod can catch all the Numpty’s who

More Police are needed let’s hope more are employed
to patrol our roads.

Law and Order on Island Roads is very minimal
unlike the mainland.
I must say many of the signs on the island are
confusing .
Island Roads needs to clean up their act with signage.
What I would like to see is an Islandwide crackdown on
Speeding.
Speeding on the Island is out of control.
I cannot believe the authorities have not noticed the
Speeding problem on the island.
I suggest Jordan, Quigley and Robertson take a trip
around the island and see how bad it is.
We need strict rules like Wales and London

Or….Leave people alone unless its really an issue. We dont want strict rules like london as we arent london and not some nazi capital. Police are out all the time and doing their jobs and you certainly dont want “fake policing” setting up check points etc. Free will is more important than Russian style crackdowns
