3 men accused of forcing entry to a home whilst armed with a knife have been arrested following a dramatic Police response to Ryde this afternoon (Friday).
It was just before 15:50 that emergency services received reports of 3 individuals forcing their way into a property on Field View, off Bettesworth Road in Haylands.
No fewer than 9 police vehicles rushed to the scene, quickly detaining 3 males at the junction of Colenutts Road, Upton Road and Bettesworth Road.
The trio are now on their way into custody at Newport Police Station for questioning.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has also responded with 2 ambulance crews and an operational commander deployed. However, details of any injuries sustained have not yet been confirmed.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says the incident remains ongoing at this time.
UPDATE @ 21:37 – It has been confirmed that a 38-year-old man from Ryde, a 34-year-old man of no fixed abode and a 28-year-old man from Ryde have all been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
The 28-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife/sharply bladed article.
All 3 remain in custody at this time.
UPDATE SUNDAY – All 3 men have been released on police bail until 29th November, as investigations continue.

Given that 3 people ? all weaponised, and the occupants of house, then 9 is very reasonable. Factor in events like these are usually drug related there armed misfits may have been high. Factor in the adrenaline surge of forcing their way in to a property and suddenly it may need 4 plus officers to sibdue just 1 person. See the bigger picture before such ill consider comments. Also hope thst if you need a police response ever in the future, that tge appropriate numbers are deployed to ensure you safety and the safety of those trying to help you!
We’re talking about 9 vehicles, possibly 18 coppers.
That’s one viewpoint, but Police control know the full picture and there may have been no other ongoing emergencies, and a knifeman was at large.
Rather this response and the thugs being caught, than in some areas where a small response may have led to them being at large and escaping to cause violence gain.. WELL DONE POLICE !!!
I hope the courts sentence them appropriately if found guilty. This violent lawbreaking needs stamping on with a heavy boot !! This government is not getting a grip on crime. The Island is gradually becoming a much less pleasant place to live, and it will affect tourism – our lifeblood.
Totally agree with you. My respect for the government plus the police have diminished over the years as most of the police that do the job think they are better than you plus the government have no respect for people at all. The problem with us people is we do not stick together.
