Do you have an idea or vision that helps to support families locally but need support to get this up and running? Grants of up to £5,000 are now available to help local groups, clubs and enterprises create new provisions that support positive outcomes for families, children and young people living on the Isle of Wight. Community Capacity Grant funding is available through the Isle of Wight Council’s Supporting Families Programme. The funding is intended to help providers organise activities, clubs or groups for families, parents/carers and/or young people up to the age of 19 (up to 25 with specified additional needs). The main focuses for this grant round are:
- expectant parents and parents with children up to 2 years old
- youth focussing on school transitional Years 6 and 7
- youth outreach
- family wellbeing sessions for all ages
Grants could be used to set up and run provisions such as detached/outreach youth work, family-based groups, mental health and welcoming sessions, peer support groups as well as outreach support and community-led groups. The grant application closes at midday on 31st May 2024. There are application support sessions available throughout the month, both face-to-face and virtual to support you with any queries. These will be held on 9th May 2024 (Virtual) between 13:00-14:00, and 17th May 2024 (face-to-face at County hall) between 10:00-11:00. To book any of the sessions, email [email protected]. The team would particularly like to hear from people who have an idea or vision for a group to support them to get it up and running. All providers receive free training and ongoing support to help them to become sustainable. The council has also received some additional funding this year from the Integrated Care Board to deliver activities/provision that address concerns which occur during pregnancy or in the first year following the birth of a child. The nere do wells get more than enough now adding to our council tax without giving them more.
However, as this is the woke agenda then I have a few sensible suggestions for how the money ought to be used.
1. Place free contraception by every free food outlet, in the vain hope that instead of inflicting your alleged poverty selfishly on your children, you can end the suffering for future generations.
2. Print a list of all the second hand shops, for those IF any living in poverty can dress themselves and offspring cheaply. Household goods can also be bought for pennies.
3. Print a list of cheap healthy meals which can be made and a list of ingredients and instructions to feed the destitute families.
Reducing households Council tax would be a better idea for everyone.
