Local group Friends of Appley, supported by Ryde Business Association, Ryde Town Council and Goodleaf Tree Climbing, have arranged a day of nice things to do beside the seaside in Ryde this coming Saturday.
Appley Day is back on Saturday 8th October from 11:00-15:00.
Families and friends are encouraged to head to Appley Park, bring a picnic (weather permitting) and enjoy different activities.
On the day there will be folk tales and storytelling, crafts, nature activities, tree climbing, beach survey and litter pick and more. Highlights include;
- The Appley Tower Players performing ‘Where there’s a Will there’s a way – scenes from Shakespeare’ at the tower at 12:00
- Appley Tower open day 11:00-14:00
- Fungi Foray with The IW Natural History Society at 11:00
- Kieran Larwood reading from his latest book at 13:15
- Wonderfell Theatre Company performing folk tales at 11:00
- Tour of Britain presentation for designers of the ToB flags and trophy designs at Ryde Rowing Clubfrom 14:30
- Plus much more including Bird Aware Solent, Save our Hedgehogs, Goodleaf Tree Climbing, giant bubbles with 2nd Ryde Sea Scouts
Organisers explain:
“Ryde is well known for the beach, and we would like to hear people talk about the park space in the same way. Encouraging people to walk up from the Esplanade area and appreciate the woodland trees and think about how they might enjoy the space in the future was the aim of the day. It was great to see families picnicking, and children playing and exploring”.
Thanks to the support of Ryde Rowing Club, New Carnival will be exhibiting some of the work of local young people created for the Tour of Britain. The Tour was cancelled due to the death of Her Late Majesty The Queen so work produced will be shared for the public to see as a celebration for all the creativity leading to the event.

“Children from Oakfield HAF project and our local schools have produced some outstanding work celebrating the Tour of Britain race and cycling. We really wanted them to have a chance to exhibit their costumes, artwork and flags to the public, they worked really hard and we are looking forward to showcasing their work”.
