The Taverners in Godshill is to undergo yet another management change, with Nick and Charlotte Edwards – currently of The Sun Inn in Hulverstone – preparing to take over the once-popular pub.
The Taverners has seen multiple leadership changes over the past couple of years. In April 2025, the pub closed suddenly after just 6 months under Matt and Deanna Westwood, who had taken over from long-standing operators Tim and Emma Foster. That closure came with less than 48 hours’ notice to staff and customers.
The pub quietly reopened its doors in June last year under the management of landlady Michelle Tucker, but that has also only lasted 6 months.
Now, Nick and Charlotte are taking the helm after running the West Wight’s The Sun Inn for the past 18 months.
They have announced that their final day of trade in Hulverstone will be this coming Sunday (18th January), but are encouraging regulars to follow them to their new venture in Godshill.
In a statement earlier this month, the couple explained the reason behind their departure from The Sun Inn:
“This is not a case of greedy brewery etc it is a simple case of arguments with the person we rent the pub off about the roof as most will know it is not in good shape. It is not down to us to sort out and in simple terms they just do not seem to care about the roof.
“It is such a shame as we have tried so hard for the past year and a half to keep this pub open as a proper traditional community pub but we can no longer continue, but would like to thank each and everyone of you over the past year and a half for supporting us and it has been an absolute pleasure serving you all”.

An exact reopening date for The Taverners under the new management has not yet been announced.

The Taveners was a great place many many years ago
when it had a separate restaurant at the front of the pub.
Derek knew how to run a successful business.

Always liked the Taverners & it was upsetting to find it had closed yet again. The new couple seem more business savvy so good luck to them. It’s a nice pub & I hope it all works well for us customers as well as the couple
