A chain behind some bars and restaurants on the Island is looking to expand.
Following the success of other ‘Lobster’ ventures, Giancarlo Giancovich is looking to expand its latest addition, the Smoking Lobster in Cowes.
The restaurant opened in May 2021 in the former Tiffins cafe and now, much like its original home in Ventnor, is looking to add a Drunken Lobster wine, sake and cocktail bar nearby.
If approved, the bar would open above the Megan Baker Estate Agents on the High Street, next door.
A well-being and Pilates studio could also be built as part of the plans, which have been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council.
It would be the 4th branch in the ‘Lobster’ portfolio created, with there already being a Smoking Lobster on Ventnor Esplanade and a Drunken Lobster up the hill on Pier Street.
It is said the cocktail bar would only serve desserts.
You can view the plans 22/02240/FUL, on the council’s planning register.
Comments can be submitted until 17th February.

I was quite interested when I saw the shop was opening in Cowes, until I saw their prices. £50 for a lobster! Just pandering to the rich again, no way us mere mortals can afford that.
Agree Paul
there’s not much left these days in the pocket ,it’s like existing not living we can’t take any more ,
Even during this latest cold spell we not had heating on we got a portable heater we move from 1 room to another depends which room were in but when you come out of one room the rest is very cold indeed to say the least . Summer be here soon
Have you considered heated clothing Mike? I bought my mum and me heated waistcoats that run off a small power pack. The waistcoats have three heating levels and will run for 8 hours from the power pack. It takes 4 hours to fully charge the power pack from drained. I got them off Amazon, £50 for a waistcoat and £25 for the power pack, which can also be used to charge phones and other devices. They have been very useful and it costs next to nothing to charge the power pack.
Fabulous news for the Island, not sure they are a chain though. They are a brother and sister who work harder than anyone I deal with to keep people on the Island in all year round employment and they use fresh Isle of Wight produce which can only help local businesses.
Good luck xx
OH YES PLEASE we need more fine-dining like this! There are plenty of kinda OK places in Cowes but Lobster is a different league, maybe together with friendly-dining at CIWYW. Love your version of Chartreuse and the seafood platter. Good to see you raising a bar (pun unintended) of what we get in the north. And all that in a pedestrian area where I already like to go for a casual walk <3
