Newport’s independent card and gift shop, Event, is to close its doors this month. Paul Dack, who has run the South Street business for the past 15 years, is taking a partial retirement – spurred on by the upcoming renewal of the building’s lease. The shop has been a staple of Newport’s Town Centre for decades, previously trading as Cards For Occasions. A closing down sale is now underway with plans to lock the doors for the final time this Saturday (18th May), but the store may stay open until the end of the month – depending on what stock remains. All cards are priced at £1, with discounts of 75% available on the store’s gift products too.

in otherwords, the greedy landlord wanted to ratchet up the rent, the greedy council want to steal more money from businesses, to hand to benefit spongers and the greedy government want to steal more money from people to give to undeserving illegal immigrant leeches and to fund their own pet wokery.
You were right up to the point that you started spouting the far-right kool-aid.
Yes, this likely has something to do with greedy landlords.
Yes, this likely has something to do with increasing business rates.
No, nothing to do with benefit spongers or immigrants (very few asylum seekers on the Island and most immigrants are working, frequently in healthcare).
Everything to do with the cuts, cuts, and more cuts to local government funding imposed by the Tory Government and repeatedly voted for by Seely.
Stop believing their lies. Illegal immigration is a problem, but 90% of the problems with this country have nothing to do with it, and have everything to do with the people who are telling you they are.
Sorry, I agree 100% with Steve!
In that case you should indeed be apologising.
Again, the majority wouldn’t agree with you!
Let me guess another charity shop?
retirement island is also to blame. More old people = less spending.
How do you work that one out? Younger people are much less likely to buy cards.
Landlords are getting too greedy which will ultimately lead to another abandoned building and an eyesore in later months. The increase from Council doesn’t help either one day they will realise you need shoppers to buy from shops to keep them open and the parking charges and fees they charge shops to operate are not helping.
They always had what I wanted and not the usual stuff. People used to remark how I always got interesting and different cards from there.
I shall miss them and the helpful staff.
